And just like that, I am officially 50 years young. I have to admit I was extremely excited to reach this milestone, as it represented a sense of longevity. I’ve gained some grey hair and added a few pounds but most importantly I’ve gained some wisdom. Check out these 3 meaningful life changing lessons that I am embracing at 50.
BE PRESENT:
Life is short and the family and friends that we surround ourselves with want our attention. They want us to be intentionally present in our interactions and with our time. Put your phone away and any other distractions you may have and enjoy the moment. Make time for your loved ones. Listen and let them know that you are present by the way you respond. I am guilty of multi-tasking a lot, often I am attempting to do more than one thing at a time. Consequently, in my mind it has benefitted me but in reality it has taken me away from moments that I will never get back.
FIND YOUR BRAVE:
What has stopped you from accomplishing your goals and dreams? Is it Fear or is it your maturing age? Whatever it is that is hindering you, seek to put it behind you. Discover ways to step out of your comfort zone, and don’t allow fear to stop you in your tracks. We all need to be in a place of “productive discomfort” as Daniel Pink, author of Drive: The Surprising Truth About What Motivates Us, calls it. He wrote, “If you’re too comfortable, you’re not productive. And if you’re too uncomfortable, you’re not productive.
ALWAYS BUILD YOURSELF UP:
Make self-care a non-negotiable priority and listen to your body so that you can give it what it needs to help you feel confident. Fill your life with activities you enjoy and have an open mind to explore something new. And most importantly, maintain a positive attitude and vision of how you want your life to be.
